Postdoctoral Position in Soil and Carbon Geochemistry

A postdoctoral position is available at the Soil Biogeochemistry lab in the
Department of Environmental Sciences at University of California,
Riverside, CA. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent
researcher to join a UC Office of the President Catalyst project on drought
mitigation through carbon management. Our multi-regional project brings
together a team of soil chemists, soil microbiologists, agronomists,
irrigation specialists and modelers to conduct field and lab research on
microbiological, biophysical, and geochemical mechanisms controlling soil
aggregate formation and stability under different row crops (tomatoes,
alfalfa, wheat), farming practices (carbon inputs and rotations) and
irrigation methods (furrow and flood, microirrigation). Information on
mechanisms will be integrated into a regionally-scalable predictive model
to describe soil carbon dynamics and estimate the response of agricultural
systems to drought.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate should hold a PhD degree in soil science,
soil/environmental chemistry, geochemistry, or related field with emphasis
on redox processes and have had both field and laboratory experience in
soils research. Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five
years from an accredited college or university.

Skills:
Demonstrated experience in synchrotron based spectroscopic techniques
including beam time acquisition, data collection, analysis, and
interpretation is highly preferred. The position will require travel to
various parts of California for field work and synchrotron experiments.

Application contents:
- One paragraph cover letter describing the applicant?s research
experiences and interests
- Curriculum vitae
- Names, addresses, email, and phone number for 3 references
Contact:
Applications or informal inquiries can be sent to Dr. Samantha Ying at
samying(at)ucr(dot)edu with SOIL POSTDOC as the subject line.
